Web audits are like the proverbial routine doctor visits, in the digital realm. Let’s take a look at some key tools we’ve identified that should be in every business owner’s toolkit. Enjoy.

  • Get Your Business Online (GYBO) – is essentially a landing page for Google My Business. Type in your business and location to see if your business is already listed on Google. If so, you will be alerted to update, verify, and review your business information for accuracy. If not, you’ll have the opportunity to create a GMB (Google My Business) account.
  • LikeAlyzer“LikeAlyzer helps you to measure and analyze the potential and effectiveness of your Facebook Pages. It allows you to monitor, compare and explore all the possibilities of your Facebook Page by evaluating your activity to ensure your success on the most popular social network in the world – Facebook.”

LikeAlyzer is a free, great tool to help you retrieve data about your Facebook page performance that cannot necessarily be found from Facebook’s ‘Insights’ tab. You’ll get breakdowns of your average posts per day & type, timing, and engagement rate, among other things.

  • SEM Rush – An essential tool that offers comprehensive digital and SEO marketing insights. Just simply place a domain, keyword, or URL in the search bar and it will instantly generate domain and keyword analytics. One caveat is that the tool is geared for social media marketers so the jargon might create a little distance from the everyday entrepreneur.
  • SEO Site Checkup“SEO Site Checkup is a free analysis tool that audits the entire website with 45 checks in 6 different categories (common SEO issues, server&security, mobile usability, social media and semantic web). With due consideration of these results, the tool shows up a general score and a number of failed checks.”

It’s a good idea to use this tool in tandem with another similar service. Like your credit score, it’s a good idea to check your optimization across different platforms to get a more holistic impression of how well your website is performing, as well as uncover some “leaks” that weren’t picked up in other assessment tools.

  • Google PageSpeed Insights – This isn’t the first time we’ve listed this tool and it won’t be the last. Page speed optimization is an oft-neglected area of website development but is important for your Google ranking and customer/visitor experience. So, after some investigating, we discovered that we didn’t understand Google PageSpeed Insights like we thought we did. Despite the name, Google PageSpeed Insights doesn’t measure page speed. Yup, you read that right. In fact, the majority of marketing experts use other tools for measuring page speed. So what is it good for, you ask? Google PageSpeed can be good for pointing out problem areas on your site, for example, you have too many large images which should be compressed. To correctly measure your page speed, read this.
  • Uber Suggest“Use Übersuggest to quickly find new keywords not available in the Google Keyword Planner. Take your keyword research to the next level with tons of keyword ideas for SEO, PPC, and your next content marketing campaign.”

Use this tool to confirm and identify optimum keywords for your business, industry, and brand. Adjust accordingly. What’s also uber great about this tool? They have a free KeywordEverywhere extension that you can add-on to Firefox and Chrome.

  • Twitter Audit – Oh, are your Twitter followers real? Find out with a simple tool.
  • Plagium – Suspect that someone could be plagiarizing your awesome content? This site offers a free, quick search. Simply copy-and-paste your original text and Plagium will let you know if that same content appears on other unauthorized pages.
